22 out of the nations top Fortune 500 companies are female. That’s literally 22 women out of 500 CEOs.
Women make up only 19.2% of executive officers in those top 500 companies, yet research shows the when businesses have women as executives they see a 34% increase of return on equity, and their shareholders see a 35% increase. Why aren’t there more women leaders?
Females make up nearly half of today’s workforce, yet they are struggling to become leaders in business. Many of those reasons include, lack of confidence, don’t like taking risks, like to follow the rules, and “play it safe”. This all keeps women in their comfort zone.
Let’s just say it, it’s about time women start breaking the rules! Why let the men have all the fun? Be bold, be brave a go for it ladies.
As we’ve talking about the Women’s Adventure Contest, we have been getting some great feedback and lots of questions from women and men who are interested in nominating a woman in their life who needs adventure. We’ve even had some women confess they will try to find someone to nominate themself personally for the contest. Some responses we have received include, “Oh so they need to be really physically fit to do this, or what if they’ve never done those activities before.” The activity adventures they were referring to include, backpacking, paddle board yoga, meditation, mountain biking, and some other surprises that won’t be revealed until that weekend.
Below lists responses and feedback on the Women’s Adventure Contest questions:
“They need to be really physically fit to do this.”
First, everyone’s fitness level is different for each person. The adventure weekend will show that everyday women can complete everything that is in store for them. Secondly, the goal of the contest is to get women to challenge themselves, and step outside their comfort zone. In turn realizing the confidence they never knew they had or forgot they had. Completing an activity they never thought they could do will empower them and strengthen their mind, body, and spirit.
“What if they’ve never done this before.”
The purpose of the Women’s Adventure Contest is to get women to try something for the first time, because when you do something that’s mentally and somewhat physically challenging, that is when confidence is gained, and individuals are able to use those skills in their personal and professional life.
Like Deborah Collins Stephens, said at this year’s Indiana conference for Women, referring to how to get women to be strong leaders and successful in business,
“We have to get women comfortable being uncomfortable.”
Women may be uncomfortable at first on an adventure, but taking those risks, stepping outside their comfort zone will excel them to become strong leaders, and give them the confidence they need to succeed.
